Our world is complex, interconnected, dynamic, volatile and uncertain. It is not easy to lead in such turbulent times.  Growing up in the Western world is likely to mean that we haven’t had the education or experience to respond with confidence as a leader in this harsh climate and landscape.   Our leadership needs to respond with care to our changing world, and lead in a new more sustainable manner.  Old leadership has resulted in a world and way of being that is unsustainable for humans. There is no doubt that we need to shift our consciousness if we want to thrive and survive not just as leaders but as humans.  Our leadership needs to also take up this challenge.  We are all leaders and therefore developing ourselves to lead in today’s world requires a new way of learning and developing.  To become more agile, interconnected, collaborative, present, embodied and aware requires an alternative route of development than is typical of leadership development.  As researchers and thought leaders on post conventional leadership development , such as Nicki Vincent, Charles Baron & Mario Cayer, Bill Torbert, Otto Scharmer, Angela Pfaffenberger have found, developing new leadership (post conventional leadership) requires us to go beyond our current stage of consciousness, to use all of our sensory intelligence, to experience a connection with nature, and connect mind, body and purpose in a safe and reflective space.

Development of this nature doesn’t happen in a classroom or conference centre, sitting alongside others just like you.  New leadership is developed in a friendly, honest, real and open space where diverse human connection is fostered and nature connection is accessible.  Rather than learning new knowledge, new leadership development compliments the acquisition of new information with experiential learning – this enables new perspectives to emerge and for leaders to gain new insights that change their view of the world, and the problems they are keen to solve.  As a result of this immersive development new leaders have a broader and deeper awareness of the world in which they operate.

There is a shift as we develop our old-world leadership from considering the impact on short term individual goals, competitive advantage and profit, to prioritising what is most important for sustaining in the longer-term, self, organisations, society and planet.

This is a time to step up to the challenges we face and develop the leader in you.  If you would like to join others who are curious to discover new leadership please do join us on our next Discovering New Leadership module.  We are a friendly, warm team of facilitators with backgrounds in science, psychology, leadership and coaching.  You may want to read about the impact the module has had on leaders from across society, from corporates, community groups, activist groups, social enterprises, education and more, however the experience will also be unique for you.
